The Winter Mountain Leader scheme enables experienced mountain walkers to lead groups in mountainous country of the United Kingdom and Ireland in winter conditions, whilst providing instruction on the basic skills needed to remain safe.

Winter Mountain Leaders operate in wild country which may contain steep, rocky ground covered in snow or ice, but not in conditions that would require the use of a rope.
